Types of Therapies Offered

Evergreen Wellness is dedicated to helping you achieve your wellness goals by offering the following services:

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or ACT, is an action-focused approach to psychotherapy that stems from cognitive behavioural therapy. Using this approach, your Evergreen Wellness Counsellor can help you develop the skills needed to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with your inner emotions, so that you can accept that these feelings are appropriate and you can then start taking positive steps forward in your life. There is a prevailing idea nowadays that “negative” emotions need to be fixed or changed, rather than experienced as a part of life. In ACT, your counselor will focus on valid alternatives to help change the way you think, such as mindfulness, attention to personal values and commitment to action. By working with you to change your behaviour, as well as helping you learn to accept your psychological experiences, you can alter your attitude and emotional state. If you are experiencing things like anxiety, depression, OCD, psychosis, an eating disorder, substance use disorder, chemical dependence, workplace stress or chronic pain, you may benefit from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Our highly trained team of counsellors can help you develop skills and strategies to help manage your feelings and symptoms. By working with you to create an actionable plan, we can help you move forward in life and find peace, balance, connection, and joy. While you may sometimes feel like you are fighting a constant battle alone, Evergreen Wellness is here to support you along the way.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Our patterns of thinking are often deeply entrenched and habitual. That is why it can be extremely difficult to change our way of thinking, especially on our own. At Evergreen Wellness, our highly trained professional counsellors are here to offer help and support. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, is a short-term form of psychotherapy based on the concept that the way someone thinks and feels affects the way that they behave. Using this approach, Evergreen Wellness can help you resolve present-day challenges such as depression, anxiety, relationship/marital issues, anger issues, stress, eating disorders, chronic pain, or OCD, by clarifying the cause of your concerns, challenging them, and changing your thought patterns in order to change your responses to difficult situations. In doing so, you can move forward in your wellness journey. CBT is often successful in treating adults, teens, and children in groups or individually. Let Evergreen Wellness help you develop the skills and strategies to create an actionable plan to help manage your feelings and symptoms, and allow you to find peace, balance, connection, and joy. While you may sometimes feel like you are fighting a constant battle alone, Evergreen Wellness is here to support you along the way.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, is a short-term form of psychotherapy based on the concept that the way someone thinks and feels affects the way that they behave. When applied to insomnia, it also focuses on how we sleep. Using this approach, The Evergreen Wellness team of counsellors can help you resolve any unhelpful and dysfunctional thoughts about sleep, by clarifying how they may be contributing to your symptoms of insomnia. Through CBT-i therapy, our Counselling Team will help you create an actionable plan to help manage your feelings and symptoms. The plan will help you develop the skills and tools necessary to replace negative thoughts and behaviours with positive ones that promote sound sleep. This may take the form of changing your routine, setting sleep limits, changing certain lifestyle habits, improving your sleeping area, or remaining passively awake. CBT-i is often successful in treating those who suffer from insomnia due to lifestyle habits, medical issues, physical problems, or mental health conditions. Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Our patterns of thinking are often deeply entrenched and habitual, which is why it can be difficult to change our way of thinking, especially on our own. At Evergreen Wellness, our highly trained professional counsellors are here to help you recognize self-criticism and teach you the tools necessary to defuse it when it arises so you can move forward on your wellness journey. Compassion-Focused Therapy, or CFT, is a therapeutic approach that aims to help people who struggle with shame and self-criticism, often caused by a history of early abuse and neglect. Using this approach, our counsellors can help you cultivate the skills of self-compassion and other-oriented compassion, which can help regulate your mood and lead to feelings of safety, self-acceptance, and comfort. CFT is often successful in treating adults, teens, and children, in groups or individually. The goal of CFT is to help you recognize what compassion feels like, become better at practicing it towards yourself and others, and take the first steps to make the necessary changes to move forward. While you may sometimes feel like you are fighting a constant battle alone, Evergreen Wellness is here to support you along the way.

Emotionally Focused Therapy | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Our patterns of thinking and behaving are often deeply entrenched and habitual, which is why it can be difficult to change our way of thinking, especially on our own. At Evergreen Wellness, our highly trained professional counsellors can help you with a range of concerns related to a lack of emotional awareness. In doing so, you can become better at using information provided by emotions, which can allow you to better cope. Emotion-Focused Therapy, or EFT, is a therapeutic approach to healing that stems from the belief that our emotions are strongly linked to identity; emotions are what guide us in defining our preferences and making daily decisions. EFT assumes that lack of emotional awareness can lead to negative outcomes. A key element of EFT is the notion that one has to feel a feeling in order to change it. EFT can help you better identify, understand, experience, accept, transform, use and flexibly manage your emotions. Whether you suffer from emotional distress and alienation, difficulty expressing your emotions to others, or feelings of helplessness and unlovability, Evergreen Wellness is here to help. EFT is particularly popular as a couple-intervention, but can also be used to treat individual depression, anxiety and PTSD, and to repair family bonds. Evergreen Wellness is here to help you take the first steps in expressing your emotions, sharing your vulnerabilities, and learning to solve your relationship difficulties together with mutual love, support, and closeness.

EMDR Treatment

EMDR Treatment | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Evergreen Wellness is committed to helping you move forward after difficult or traumatic situations. We all use our minds to cope with predictable stress, process information, reflect on our emotions and self-esteem, and reflect on our experiences. Previous memories and experiences are stored in our mind and pathways are created that act as automatic templates for future learning. While this is usually helpful, the experience of trauma can overwhelm our ability to cope effectively, and the experience may get stored in our memory differently and in ways that make it difficult to respond as we normally would. You may find yourself “overreacting” or behaving in “irrational” ways that do not make sense. You may also develop negative ways you think about yourself in relation to trauma, such as thinking that you were the cause. These negative beliefs and thoughts may influence how you think about yourself in other situations as well. Eye Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, or EMDR Therapy, works to rewire the brain and connect the traumatic memory to new information. The goal is to reduce the impact of distressing experiences from the past that affect present-day life, and help get you back to living your life in a healthier and more positive way, with reduced stress and anxiety. EMDR is typically used to treat symptoms such as anxiety, depression, anger, panic, guilt, and PTSD reactions. It can also be used to help enhance emotional resources, such as self-esteem and confidence. The result of EMDR is that people are able to release what is unhelpful and distressing from the experience, and take away what is helpful and adaptive. It allows for the process of replacing unhealthy, negative beliefs associated with traumatic memories with more healthy, positive beliefs. This leads to functioning in healthier ways, and being able to think of past events without feeling distressed.

Relational Therapy

Relationship Therapy | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

Our patterns of thinking are often deeply entrenched and habitual, which is why it can be extremely difficult to change our way of thinking, especially on our own. At Evergreen Wellness, our highly trained professional counselors are here to help you clarify the underlying causes of your concerns, and work with you to positively change your thought patterns so that you can move forward on your wellness journey. Relational Therapy, or Relational-Cultural Therapy, is a type of psychotherapy based on the concept that mutually satisfying relationships with others are necessary for one’s emotional well-being. This approach also takes into account how social and familial factors relate to your life. In relational therapy, you will learn how you might be pushing people away rather than letting them in, and it will examine how past experiences may be influencing these behaviours. The goal in relational therapy is to develop new ideas and patterns of thinking about relationships, and learn how to create healthier, positive, longer-lasting relationships moving forward. Your Evergreen Wellness therapist will help you learn to build your sense of self and agency, as well as patience and trust in others. You will also learn about and develop boundaries, compromise, and a healthy balance in relationships. Stronger and more positive relationships can create the foundation for a more fulfilling life, offer greater stability, and create more security. While you may sometimes feel like you are fighting a constant battle alone, Evergreen Wellness is here to support you along the way.

Trauma Informed Therapy

Trauma Informed Therapy | Evergreen Wellness | Integrated Mental & Physical Wellness Centre | Olds and Didsbury Alberta

If you have experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, physical neglect, racial trauma, mental illness of a family member, witnessed violence or death, have a relative imprisoned, or experienced the loss of a family member as a child due to separation, divorce or death, Trauma Informed Therapy may be beneficial for you. Trauma informed therapy takes into account your previous trauma and the impact it has had on your behaviour, mental health and your ability to engage in treatment. There is no single type of trauma or way that people will respond to a traumatic event. The same event can have different impacts on different people. At Evergreen Wellness, your therapist will take steps to avoid inadvertently triggering or retraumatizing you during the course of your treatment, by ensuring that you feel physically and emotionally safe, being open and honest, and collaborating with you to create a tailored treatment plan based on your needs and goals. Trauma Informed Therapy has been used for both children and adults who have experienced trauma, and can also help address issues of guilt and shame that trauma survivors often feel. Let Evergreen Wellness help you take your first steps towards improving your mental and emotional well-being.

At Evergreen Wellness, our highly trained professional counselors are here to help you clarify the underlying causes of your concerns and work together with you to positively change your thought patterns so you can move forward on your wellness journey. This therapeutic approach is often used for those who have been diagnosed with self-destructive impulses, suicidal ideation, borderline personality disorder and emotion dysregulation. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy acknowledges that life is complex, and while health is not static, but rather an ongoing process where there is a balance of opposing forces, you need not get caught up in them. Whether you have PTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, substance use disorder or depression, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy might be right for you. Let Evergreen Wellness help you take the first steps towards improving your mental and emotional well-being.
